Stages of Rett Syndrome
- From the age of 6 to 18 months, some signs might be overlooked or mistaken as a different disorder. Babies might show a lack of eye contact or a disinterest in toys. They could also have trouble sitting up or crawling.
- Usually between 1 to 4 years old, children at this age begin to loose their ability to speak and move on their own. They can also start having breathing problems. (See Symptom 4) They might also start to cry or scream for no reason.
- Between ages of 2 and 10, this is the plateau stage. They might regain eye contact and communication skills. They might still have trouble moving on their own.
- This stage is the final stage of RTT. At this stage mobility is reduced. This is also accompanied by muscle weakness and scoliosis. (See Symptom 6)
